The most common questions students ask about Constellation have been assembled. Check these FAQs first to see if your question has already been answered!
What is Constellation?
Constellation is a cross-platform application that displays digital course materials and is designed to help you master your instructional goals. Materials include essential readings (chapters), audio and video assets, interactive exercises, and supplements that are organized in a purposeful way. Materials may be displayed on the Constellation browser-based reader or on a number of mobile devices.
Once you have accessed your materials, you are free to use them in any way you wish: you can download to multiple devices, print without restriction, keep for future reference, or share with colleagues. You don't license or "rent" these materials; you own them outright.
Constellation is accessible on the web, iPad and Android tablets and it allows you to interact with your text materials by creating highlights and annotations.

Web
How do I access Constellation on the Web?
If you are an undergraduate student and are taking a first course (GEN101) with the University of Arizona Global Campus, you will be given access to the Constellation website where the materials are stored. You will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to access Constellation. Your username and password will be the same as your Student Portal username and password. This email will be sent the Thursday before the course start date.
Thereafter, you can access the Constellation site in three ways: directly through the Constellation URL https://content.uagc.edu, or through links in either the Student Portal or the Online Classroom. You do not have to re-enter your login and password from either the Portal or the Classroom.
What are the minimum technical requirements for supporting the reader and digital materials?
- Operating System: MacOS 11.0 or higher, Windows 10 or higher;
- Hardware: Minimum manufacturer requirements for your operating system and 4gb of free storage space;
- Web browser: The current or first previous major release of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari;
- Networking: Consistent high-speed internet connection, with minimum of 5mbps download speed and 1mbps upload speed.
How can I recover my materials if my computer crashes? Can I transfer my materials from one computer to another?
Constellation digital materials are stored on Constellation servers, including your notes and highlights. If your computer crashes or you replace one computer with another, all of your work will be saved. You won't lose a thing.
Am I able to load eBooks from other sources onto my Constellation reader?
No, only approved and proprietary content can be viewed on the Constellation reader at this time.
What is highlighting all about? Why should I use it?
Highlighting is a powerful tool for learning. Common items that are highlighted are key ideas, terms and facts, important passages, material that has been referenced in previous sections, dates, quotes, etc. Highlight materials you feel are important and may want to refer back to later.
How do I highlight?
Simply select some text by left clicking with your mouse and dragging your cursor over the text. Release the mouse when you have selected the text you wish to highlight. Then an inline toolbar will pop up. Select the highlight button. The text should now be highlighted.
How do I change the color of or delete my highlight?
Click on the highlighted text. An inline menu will pop up with color change options and a delete button. To change the color of your highlight, select the color you want from the palette. The new color will stay for all new highlights until you change it. The new color will not affect highlights you have already made. To delete, click the trash can button and once you confirm deletion, your highlight will disappear.
You may also change the color of or delete your highlight in your Notebook. In your Notebook, simply click the highlight that you wish to delete or to change the color, and a toolbar menu will give you color change and delete options.
How do I see all my highlights?
You can view all of your highlights in your Notebook. For more information on the Notebook, see Notebook FAQs below.
You may also view and quickly navigate to your highlights in the text from the notation summary pane. To do this, click the contents button in your toolbar. A pane will drop down on the left side of your screen. Click on the notations tab. All of the highlights you have created will be viewable.
What is making a note all about? Why should I use it?
Note taking is a powerful tool for learning. Notes are commonly used to rewrite book ideas in your own words or to cross-reference the ideas with something else. Notes can be made around key ideas, terms and facts, important passages, etc. Make notes about materials that you feel are important.
How do I add a note?
Simply select some text by left clicking with your mouse and dragging your cursor over the text. Release the mouse when you have selected the text where you want to add a note. Then an inline toolbar will pop up. Select the note button. A text box will appear inline where you released the mouse. Compose your text for the note. Once you've composed your note, you can just click outside of the note to close it. The note will be saved automatically for you.
How do I edit, change the color of or delete a note?
You can edit or change the color of or delete a note by clicking on the note button in the text. The note will open and you can edit the content of the note right in the text field. You can also change the color of the note by clicking the different color buttons. Select the trash can button to delete the note forever.
How long can my note be?
Your note can be a maximum of 500 characters or roughly two long paragraphs. If you want to write a longer note, you'll need to use additional notes.
How do I see all my notes?
You can view all of your notes in your Notebook. For more information on the Notebook, see Notebook FAQs below.
You may also view and quickly navigate to your notes in the text from the notation summary pane. To do this, click the contents button in your toolbar. A pane will drop down on the left side of your screen. Click on the notations tab. All of the highlights you have created will be viewable.
What is the Knowledge Check?
The Knowledge Check is an assessment tool that identifies your learning gaps. It pinpoints sections you need to focus on in order to really master the course material. With the Knowledge Check, you will see an overall representation of your proficiency with the course material. Before reading a chapter, take a pre-test to determine what you already know. Once you have read the chapter, take a post-test to gauge your understanding. With your test results you will get recommended sections to read based on what you do not fully understand yet.
How do I access the Knowledge Check?
Click on the Knowledge Check icon in the bottom right of the reader pane.
I don't see a Knowledge Check icon or Pre or Post Tests?
The Knowledge Check feature is only available on select books at this time If you don't see the Knowledge Check icon, your book does not have self-assessments.
Will the Pre and Post tests affect my grade?
No, the tests are not graded. They are purely a self-assessment tool to help you better understand the course material.
How many times can I take a Pre-Test?
You can take a pre-test only once.
How many times can I take a Post-Test?
You may take a Post-Test as many times as you like
How do I access the tests?
You can access the tests via the Table of Contents or from the Knowledge Check. The pre-tests appear at the beginning of the chapter in the Table of Contents, and the post-tests are at the end of the chapter.
What is the Review Guide?
The Review Guide is a visual representation of your latest test performance for a chapter. It also lists the recommended sections to review. To see your proficiency of the chapter material, click on "Review Guide" in the Knowledge Check.
What are Learning Objectives?
Each chapter has a set of Learning Objectives, which are concepts that you should understand after reading the chapter.
What is the Notebook?
The Notebook is a place where you can review, manage and edit all of the notes and highlights that you create within the text. It serves as a study tool to help you focus on the book content that you need to remember. From the Notebook you can edit, delete, change the color of your annotations , filter and view only certain color annotation.
Where do I find the Notebook?
To launch the Notebook, click the notebook button on the footer bar of the reader. You can edit, change the color of or delete your notes from the Notebook. You can also delete or change the color of the highlights. Simply click on the note or highlight and tool tips will help you discover what each button does. You can even filter your Notebook by highlight or note color to help you focus on the content most important to you.
How is the Notations tab different from the Notebook?
The notations tab is a summary of your notes and highlights and is a way to quickly navigate to your notes in the text from the notation summary pane. You cannot edit your notes or highlights from this view.
I want to see only my green notes or my yellow highlights, how do I do that?
The colored note and highlight buttons at the top of the Notebook and notation summary pane allow you to filter and view only the note colors you wish to see. You will see all of your notes by default. To see only your green notes, deselect by clicking all of the highlight buttons and the blue and orange note buttons. To see only your yellow highlights, deselect all the notes and the pink and green highlights.
How do I go to the previous or next section?
Click on the forward or back arrow button on the side of the reader pane. The forward arrow button will take you forward one section at a time. The back arrow will take you back one section at a time. You may also navigate the table of contents in the Chapters menu. To do this, click the Contents button on the toolbar. Doing so will enable a drop-down pane. The Chapters tab on the drop-down pane tells you the chapter and section you are in and lets you navigate to any chapter or section within the material.
How do I go to the end or to the beginning of the material?
Use the previous and next arrow buttons to go back or forward one section at a time. You may also navigate the table of contents in the Chapters menu. To do this, click the Contents button on the toolbar. Doing so will enable a drop-down pane. The Chapters tab on the drop-down pane tells you the chapter and section you are in and lets you navigate to any chapter or section within the material.
How does Search work?
Browse key terms or concepts in Constellation's Search feature. To begin a search click on the search button at the top right of the reading screen. Type your search term(s) into the text entry field and submit them by clicking on the search button to the right of the field or by clicking enter. You'll receive a list of all areas within your book that contain the term(s). You can click on listed term(s) to navigate to the area in which the term(s) appear in your book.
What are the basic search functions offered?
Single Word & Multiple Word Searches
Constellation can perform searches on both single terms and phrases (multiple terms). Simply type your word or multiple words into the Search box and submit.
Example 1: Type "learning" into the Search box to receive all results for that word. This could include exact matches or additional instances, such as "cognitive learning."
Example 2: Type "latent learning" into the Search box to receive results for each time both words appear on the same page.
Searches With "AND", "OR", "NOT"
Constellation will perform searches based on a variety of operators including "AND", "OR" and "NOT". Please note that when using operators you must type them in ALL CAPS.
Example 1: Type "cognitive AND learning" into the Search box to receive results for each time both words appear on the same page.
Example 2: Type "cognitive OR learning" into the Search box to receive results for either instances of each word on a page.
Example 3: Type "cognitive NOT learning" into the Search box to exclude any results where "learning" appears on the same page as "cognitive."
Searches With Special Characters
Constellation cannot perform searches with special characters ( - & || ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ " ~ * ? : \)
How does my Profile work?
Your Profile contains important information about you and helps to personalize your experience. To view your Profile click on the Profile button at the top right of your reader screen and select Profile. Your Profile will display your account credentials and also create an area to upload an avatar and change your password.
How do I upload an avatar?
To upload an avatar, click on the browse button to select an image of yourself. The image must be one of the file types listed and square images work best. Once you have selected an image, click the upload button. Your new image will appear on your Profile. You can change your avatar at any time on the web.
How do I change my password?
Your password is the same as for the Student Portal. To change this password, you must visit the Student Portal at http://student.uagc.edu/. Click "Forgot your Password?" and follow the prompts.
I forgot my username and/or Password. How do I get it reset?
Your password for Constellation is the same as for the Student Portal. To reset your Student Portal password, click the "Forgot your Password?" link on the Login screen at https://content.uagc.edu and enter your Student Portal user name in the "Reset Password" section of the page, and click the "Reset Password" button. You will then be prompted to follow a link where you can manage your account settings.
To retrieve your Student Portal username, click the "Forgot your Password?" link on the Login screen at https://content.uagc.edu and enter your email address associated with your account and click the "Send Username" button. You will then be prompted to follow a link where you can manage your account settings.
Remember: You can also access Constellation directly from the Student Portal or your Online Classroom without entering your username and password.
What are the different file types? Why do you have so many? Which one should I download?
We offer multiple file types for download to offer you the flexibility to access materials in any way you see fit. The different file types, with descriptions, are as follows:
- ePub.ePUB is an industry- standard, open- file format for electronic books. You should download this file if you want to display your materials on a portable device like an iPhone, iPad, or Nook. Please note that many devices do not display ePUB automatically. You may need a plug-in, an app, or to convert the ePUB into a file format your device recognizes. ePUB will allow you to transfer your materials to as many devices as you like.
- TXT.TXT is a raw content file. It is very small, and is ideal for those on slow internet connections. Please note the TXT is only unformatted text, with no images. It is designed to be a quick download. Essentially, it is the original file without any fancy formatting, pictures, etc.
- MP3.MP3 is an industry file format for audio files. This option allows you to listen to the material on the go.
- MOBI.MOBI is the file type used by Amazon's Kindle. This option allows you to import and display Constellation material on your Kindle or any of the Kindle apps.
How do I print my materials?
Constellation has a print feature built into the platform that allows to print on-demand, a single section or multiple sections, one chapter or all of them; it's up to you. You can also create your own study guide by printing out your notes and highlights.
iPad
What are the minimum technical requirements for supporting theConstellation Reader on my iPad?
You will need iOS version 5.0 or higher
How do I get the iPad app?
Go to the App Store on your iPad, search for "Constellation for UAGC," and download the free app.
What are my login credentials for the iPad?
STUDENTS: You may log in to the iPad application with your Student Portal username and password. To change your password, you must visit the Student Portal at http://student.uagc.edu. Click "Forgot your Password?" and follow the prompts.
FACULTY/TAs: You will need to use your Classroom username and 'OWA Email' password as your credentials when logging into the iPad application
Why can't I print from my iPad?
The iPad app does not have a print feature. If you want to print, you must use the web application.
Why aren't my videos playing?
Certain devices do not support Flash video; it is recommended to view videos using a compatible web browser.
Can I download the books on a 3G connection?
The quickest way to download is with a Wi-Fi connection (not 3G). The average time to download over a Wi-Fi connection is about 2 minutes. On a 3G connection, downloads can take 20-30 minutes.
How do I highlight?
Tap and hold the text where you wish to start your highlight until a magnifying glass symbol appears and selection buttons appear. Drag the blue dots to redefine the selection area. Select the highlight option and the text will be highlighted.
How do I change the color of or delete my highlight?
To change color of your highlight, tap the highlighted text. An inline menu with color options will pop up. Select the color you want from the palette. The menu will close and the color you have selected will be reflected in the highlight button. The new color will stay for all new highlights until you change it. The new color will not affect highlights you have already made. To delete your highlight, select the delete option and confirm that you want to delete your highlight. Your highlight will be deleted.

How do I get the Android tablet app?

What are the minimum technical requirements for supporting the Constellation Reader on my Android tablet device?
You will need a tablet that runs Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread) and highter.
How can I get support for Constellation on my Android phone?
Currently Android phones are not supported.

To see only your yellow highlights, deselect by tapping all of the note buttons and the green and pink highlight buttons.
How do I view the highlight from the summary? It only gives me a small portion of the highlight.

How do I see only my green notes?

How do I view the full note from the summary? It only gives me a small portion of the note.

You can swipe forward or backward one section at a time. You may also navigate the table of contents in the Chapters menu.
How does Search work?
To begin a search click on the magnifying glass button in the top action bar. Type your search term(s) into the text entry field and submit them by clicking on the search button to the right of the field. You�ll receive a list of all areas within your book that contain the term(s). You can click on listed term(s) to navigate to the area in which the term(s) appear in your book.
What is the Knowledge Check?
The Knowledge Check is an assessment tool that identifies your learning gaps. It pinpoints sections you need to focus on in order to really master the course material. With the Knowledge Check, you will see an overall representation of your proficiency with the course material. Before reading a chapter, take a pre-test to determine what you already know. Once you have read the chapter, take a post-test to gauge your understanding. With your test results you will get recommended sections to read based on what you do not fully understand yet.
How do I access the Knowledge Check?
Click on the Knowledge Check icon in the bottom of the reader pane.
I don't see a Knowledge Check icon or Pre or Post Tests?
The Knowledge Check feature is only available on select books at this time If you don't see the Knowledge Check icon, your book does not have self-assessments.
Will the Pre and Post tests affect my grade?
No, the tests are not graded. They are purely a self-assessment tool to help you better understand the course material.
How many times can I take a Pre-Test?
You can take a pre-test only once.
How many times can I take a Post-Test?
You may take a Post-Test as many times as you like
How many times can I take a Post-Test?
You may take a Post-Test as many times as you like.
How do I access the tests?
You can access the tests via the Table of Contents or from the Knowledge Check. The pre-tests appear at the beginning of the chapter in the Table of Contents, and the post-tests are at the end of the chapter.
